How I teach

A teacher, and a bit of a friend.

I adapt to your energy and your level, we change place every session, and you leave having spoken more French than you expected.

  • One teacher, one learner
  • A new place every time
  • The app between sessions

my rules

  1. You talk, I listen.
  2. A new place, every time.
  3. A mistake? We keep going.
  4. Effort gets cheered.

— Théodore

Before we meet

Two minutes of questions, so we both come prepared.

A short online questionnaire: your level, your time, what you want to do in French. Our first session already starts tailored to you.

The first 15 minutes

First, we get to know each other.

  • youWho you are, why French, what you love doing.
  • your paceYour energy, your level: I adapt to you, not the other way round.
  • the practicalWhere, when, how it all works.
  • your notesI write on the board, clear and legible. You keep your own notebook, and I send you a photo of the board at the end.

Every session

Never the same place twice.

After the first meeting, every session is a new activity somewhere new. A new place brings new words — and something real to say.

What we do there

#1

Read the street

We walk and read everything: signs, menus, posters. You say it out loud.

#2

A quick bit of culture

Why the French do it that way — explained in two minutes, on the spot.

#3

A funny expression

One per session, the kind you really hear. Avoir la flemme, anyone?

#4

Your five minutes

You pick a topic and talk about it for five minutes. The floor is yours.

The shortcut

Speak with the present. The rest can wait.

My way to get you talking fast: a few structures that cover the past, the future and what you want — before any grammar book.

Your toolkitFIL

je · tuThe only two forms you need at first.
je suis allé · j'ai faitThe past. All the time.
je vais + verbThe future. All the time.
je voudraisWhat you want.
le · laDoesn't matter yet. We come back to it later — on purpose.

Hop: every tense, with just the present. Plus the everyday action verbs.

At the bar, 3rd session

SarahJe voudrais le bière, s'il vous plaît !

le or la? Doesn't matter. She got her beer.

ThéoParfait ! Et hier, tu as fait quoi ?

SarahHier, je suis allée au marché.

je suis allée: the past, done.

ThéoEt demain ?

SarahDemain, je vais cuisiner !

je vais + verb: the future, in the present.

Stuck? Stay in French.

  • Comment on dit… ?how do you say…?
  • Plus lentement, s'il te plaît.slower, please
  • Tu peux répéter ?can you say it again?
  • Je ne comprends pas.I don't understand

Want to go further? We add the basics: numbers, the street, shops, food.

Between sessions

Between sessions, the app keeps going.

Every session is recorded. The FIL app turns what you actually said into progress — and into the starting point of our next session.

  • 1
What you said, keptNothing to write down: the session is recorded, and the app keeps your words.
  • 2
Your new words, your repeat mistakesPicked out of the conversation, with their corrections.
  • 3
Cards in your own voiceThe sentence you actually said, beside the model.
  • 4
Your speaking timeHow much of the talking was yours — the more, the better.
  • 5
Mini homework, from your conversationsSmall, personal, with a reminder the day before.
  • 6
Your words come backNext time, I bring your words back in a new place. A word counts as learned when you use it again, unprompted.

And at the end, I cheer you on.

Every session ends the same way: I tell you what you did well. Learning a language takes effort — and effort deserves to be seen.
